Fall is a beautiful time of the year here on the East Coast. I see plenty of people taking advantage of the scenery by taking long drives to see the colors of the leaves changing or visiting local orchards to pick apples. There’s another way to enjoy this time of year though! It’s festival time and there are 3 really great events you don’t want to miss.
- Indulge Festival Food and Wine Festival – St Andrews by the Sea, NB – October 16-20
The Indulge festival is a celebration of food, cider, beer and wine within the setting of beautiful St Andrews by the Sea. The true magic of this festival is how they incorporate all of the town’s best assets into the celebration. The week consists of 20 events in iconic settings like Kings Brae Garden, Rossmount Inn and downtown Water Street. My personal favorite events are the Taste of St Andrews, the Wine and Beer Trail and the after party featuring the Fabulously Rich (Tragically Hip cover band).
My advice is to stay downtown at one of the bed and breakfast hotels like the Inn on Frederick or the Kennedy Inn. The hotels are beautiful and they’re located conveniently downtown.
- World Wine & Food Expo – Moncton, NB – October 26-Nov 2
The expo is over 8 days with 330 different wines and featuring Moncton’s finest chefs. Events include dinners, seminars/tastings, and the big grand tastings. To put it simply the grand tasting is a hockey arena filled with wines from around the world for you to sample! It’s glorious.
My only tip to enjoying a grand tasting is to pace yourself, eat food and drink plenty of water during the event. Don’t forget about the pop up wine shop which will have special wines available only while quantities last!
- Raise Your Spirits – Fredericton, NB – November 19-23
Last year was my first time attending this event and I loved it! This event consists of tastings and master classes at local venues featuring whisky, rum and other spirits and then a grand showcase tasting. The grand showcase is amazing with a room full of spirits for you to sample. Last year I was able to sample 39 year old scotch whisky (my age!) and was able to go through the Balvenie collection from 12yrs up to 25yrs.
My advice is to purchase tickets early and the VIP ticket for the grand showcase event is well worth the extra cost. This allows you to get in early and beat the crowd. I also recommend pacing yourself and drink plenty of water during the event. Lastly, there is no need to prime yourself with pre drinks for this event. You’ll have time to get enough booze and participants need to remember that the samples are full strength 40+% alcohol for the most part.
